  • The 2025 Stanley Cup Finals are a rematch from last year with the Edmonton Oilers taking on the Florida Panthers.
  • Florida won last year’s Stanley Cup with a 2-1 win in Game 7 and won both regular-season meetings this season by a goal.
  • Edmonton is slight favorites to win the Stanley Cup. I’ve got your full preview on the 2025 Stanley Cup finals, including my Panthers vs Oilers prediction.

For the first time since 2009 (Red Wings/Penguins), the Stanley Cup Finals are a rematch from the year before as Edmonton and Florida meet once again.

No Canadian team has won the Stanley Cup since Montreal in 1993. All of Canada, well, most of it, will be rooting for the Oilers to bring it home.

I’ve got your look at the odds entering Game 1 Wednesday for each team to win the Stanley Cup, and my Panthers vs Oilers prediction for who will skate around with the grand silver chalice in the next 10 days or so.

Odds as of Monday, June 2. Dig into the Stanley Cup Finals with our DraftKings Sportsbook review.

You can see that the oddsmakers see this one as close. The Oilers are favored in Game 1, with the total at six or 6.5, which is high. Florida has gone 5-0 in its last five road games, and covered the puck line in five of its last six games.

Remember, last year, the Panthers won the first three games, only for Edmonton to win the next three, forcing a winner-takes-all Game 7 in Florida. Just seconds after the Oilers almost scored, Sam Reinhart beat Stuart Skinner on a counterattack, and the Florida defense made it hold up in a 2-1 victory.

Oilers legend Connor McDavid won the Conn Smythe as playoff MVP, but never came out on the ice to accept the trophy.

How The Panthers Win The Stanley Cup

Florida has been tested in the playoffs, beating rival Tampa Bay in five games, putting Toronto out of its misery in seven, and then dusting Carolina in five contentious games.

The Panthers have a clear edge at goalie in the finals with 36-year-old Sergei Bobrovsky. “Bob” has all 12 wins for Florida with a .912 save percentage and 2.11 goals against average.

Offensively, the Panthers don’t have one singular star, they have plenty. Sam Bennett has 10 goals in the playoffs to lead Florida, and captain Aleksander Barkov has 17 points, including 11 assists. My sleeper for the Conn Smythe on the Florida side would be Carter Verhaeghe, who has six goals and eight assists and is always around the puck.

Florida wins by stifling the Oilers offense and taking advantage of their opportunities. Hey, it worked last year.

How The Oilers Win The Stanley Cup

Edmonton has the star power. Connor McDavid is the best hockey player on the planet right now. He leads the NHL with 26 points in the playoffs, and he has the best sidekick in hockey in Leon Draisaitl. Both were over 100 points in the regular season.

The Oilers finished third in the Pacific Division and were not favored to get here. Goalie Stuart Skinner was yanked after the first two games against LA in the first round, but then came back after an injury to Calvin Pickard and has been steady. Not quite Bob-like numbers, but good with a 2.53 GAA and three shutouts.

Edmonton wants to push the pace and go. They would have won last year had a few bounces had gone their way.

Panthers vs Oilers Prediction

I love to point out that Edmonton was one of my sleeper picks to get here way back when the Stanley Cup playoffs were starting. Now that they’re here, it’s like its just Game 8 of last year’s series.

And this year, I like Edmonton with the home-ice advantage in seven games. Florida plays a controlled style and is deceptively fast. They’ll make you pay for any mistake. Every Edmonton shot seems like a dangerous one. I think the scales balance out from last year. It’s way past time for the Stanley Cup to spend a year in Canada.

The Pick: Oilers in seven (+450 at DraftKings)
